For the most important person in my life… ❤

Growing up, I was never much for makeup.  It’s always weighed heavily on my face, no matter how light the makeup was. Even gloss feels like an anvil most days.  I can get away with chapstick or a moisture stick for my lips, but anything else…I simply can’t handle.

To date, I only recall wearing makeup a total of four times: dressing up as Tina Turner one year for Halloween when I was maybe 8 or 9; my senior prom (my mom did the makeup that I immediately removed from my face when I arrived); a Mary Kay party in college (lightest makeup I ever wore and still … too heavy); and my very first concert (Keith Sweat BTW)…a gift for my 21st birthday. I think the most I ever tried to wear aside from that was maybe a lip pencil once or twice in college after that Mary Kay party and even that was short lived.  I find it funny that now, in this game, I’m a makeup junkie.

My mother rarely wore more than lipstick; sometimes mascara. But I don’t remember seeing anything else in her makeup case over the years.  Her thing as she got older was jewelry. I mean she always liked it when I was growing up. But as she got older, she got more and more into accessories.

One of my favorite pieces of my mom’s was a ring she had that had her birthstone (Amethyst) in it.  Purple has always been my favorite color. I often wonder if it is because of that ring. So usually when I find an interesting piece inworld (like these new rings from Yummy at Collabor88), I always try to see if it contains Amethyst.  Lucky me, this particular piece, does. 🙂

Today is my mom’s birthday.  She would have been 68 years old. My cousin and I used to take her to either the Cheesecake Factory, Macaroni Grill or IHOP for her birthday.  I remember one year she didn’t want to go anywhere; just wanted a day of games at home with us and chicken from Popeye’s. We loooved chicken from Popeye’s. We played 500 Rummy and enthusiastically listened to her relay one of her many stories about either her neighbors or something she witnessed…I can’t remember exactly. As always, she was hilarious in how animated she was with doing the voices, physical movement, all of it. We were howling it was so funny. I managed to snag three videos on my really awful (and incredibly limited at the time) cell phone.

I always loved her stories. I don’t think I ever told her that enough. It’s just one of the many things I really miss about her. Sure, I have photos, some video, even her amethyst ring. But…it all pales in comparison to what I miss most.  You never realize just how much you miss people until they’re not where you can see them or talk to them or hug them.  I could use a hug from her right now. Happy birthday, mom. All of the amethyst is for you.

❤ Miss Kilo
