I don’t get to spend much time w/ my baby sister in SL; but when we get together we make the most of it! Be it laughter, singing, shopping, movie watching, dancing or just talking in depth…I always fully enjoy the time I get with her. She’s one of the brightest stars in my sky and I’m so blessed to have her as my sister and friend.
I snagged this snappy of she and I while we were hanging out because 1 – I love to show her off. She’s just that awesome! And 2 – because I actually worked really hard to look cute this particular day by picking out this awesome group gift from Artizana and matching it with my latest finds from across the grid. See?
“And I’ll be eternally grateful…holding you so close to me…” ~ Mariah Carey
I can’t help but feel like sometimes, this song isn’t about the love of a person at all…but the love of music. Especially when paired with the single’s album cover from back in the day.
So I’ve had this dress in my closet for a hot minute and I kid you not…every time I put it on, I feel like I’m swept into this musical time warp that brings me to the fiercely gorgeous ladies who swayed behind Robert Palmer…and the incomparable (and very much well-labeled) diva, Miss Mariah Carey.
It’s like…I put this dress on and all of a sudden “Vision of Love” starts playing in my head. And then when I close my eyes to hear the song, I’m pulled into the album cover like when that lady in the A-Ha video gets pulled into that comic strip in the video Take On Me. Before I know it, I’ve surrendered to the rapture of this song and the intoxication of passion behind the words.
The words are elusive and beautiful while keeping the song simple. I love it. And even though I feel her stage performance rivals that of bricks melting into concrete while being topped with tar…I can’t deny the power of her vocals. Anyway…off to get lost in more good music.
Home: a place I didn’t know any more. I ran from my people; my home. An outcast for so many reasons…I couldn’t be there. My people wanted nothing to do with me. They saw me as a freak for not having all the features of my kind. No white hair to speak of, my red eyes never came to be. I wanted to be in the light; see the world. Not remain underground and in the dark. I wanted to touch the world and bring her closer to me. No bloodshed; it was all too much. The world needed to be embraced and loved and my people wanted no parts of it. So I left home to find a place to fit in the world.
I found a thicket, quiet and peaceful. Strolling through the beautiful and serene forest, I happened upon a unicorn. She was nothing like I had ever seen; only what my father had shown me in the scrolls and in the stories he told. Her hue not like her kind, she too was an outsider. She saw me and welcomed me to her space. “Sit with me child without home,” she said, “I see your pain. You are lost and seeking shelter. Stay with me; you are safe here.”
I sat with her, watching as her hoof touched the water. In it, pictures of me, my life…faded and reappeared. I sat with her, she showed me how to see the world in the water. Scenes shifted to others in pain: man, woman, child…animals. She saw everything. She cried for all of us, tears falling from her eyes. “The world was suffering,” she said. All she could do was watch; unable to intervene; unable to fix it. She began to teach me. She said, “Each ripple tells a different story. Each ripple, someone’s actions…the wave that follows is the result of their actions.” Each ripple…told its story to her…to us, like a secret that only we could see in full. No twists, no exaggerations…just here in this space where we watched the world through ripples.
Her guardians stood motionless as I sat with her. Never gazing upon the mythical beauty that was she; only keeping her safe…they watched this sacred place ready to strike at those who’d dare intrude. She was a sacred animal, strange for her difference…but so beautiful because of it. She was hurting too, her light fading. I held her carefully to share some of mine with her. “I will take care of you,” I whispered. She took my care; never flinching and I held tight to her. And finally, I felt home.
Just loving my new shoes from Empire and relaxing at the bestieface’s this afternoon. And pairing them with this cute top from Addams…NOT EASY! But I’m glad I found a top that came pretty darn close! Ok, off to play some Lexago (Scrabble). Byeeeee!
“Brizo is an ancient Greek goddess who was known as the protector of mariners, sailors, and fishermen. She was worshiped primarily by the women of Delos, who set out food offerings in small boats. Brizo was also known as a prophet specializing in the interpretation of dreams.” ~ Wikipedia
The story of Arturo & Catarina is a beautiful, but tragic story of true love. Arturo and Catarina fell in love but he was a fisherman who had to ship out, and she the daughter of a very controlling governor who didn’t approve of their relationship. He told her he’d be back for her in one year and upon his return he’d take her with him so they could be together forever. I’ve always believed that Catarina & Brizo are one and the same. No idea however who Arturo truly was…
So, after going to this month’s amazing Collab88 (it’s their 3rd birthday!! WOOT!) I picked up some amazing items that reminded me of both the goddess and the love story and wouldn’t ya know it…a look was born! 😮
What I love about everything I saw at Collab88 this month, aside from the awesome theme, was the light and vibrance of everything. If it was a light color, then it was a vibrant tone; signals of life! The craftsmanship on the items I bought just blew me away! I love the attention to detail in even the smallest parts of each piece.
Once I put my little look together I needed to find the perfect place. I went to Dionysus and while beautiful, it wasn’t feeling like home for my Catarina/Brizo hybrid. So the search went on. My trusty little pan companion suggested the forest, but I think he just needed to poop. Either way, bad idea.
Then I saw this wonderful garden. And as I looked on, I saw a brilliant lighthouse beckoning me to move forward. With every step, I knew Catarina/Brizo had found her perch where she could await her true love so we stood, waited and watched and perhaps one day, her Arturo will return.

See you soon lovelies.
