This Thanskgiving…LEAVE YOUR FOOD AT HOME! If you are invited to a function of any kind, come empty-handed.
According to articles posted by The Washington Post, Buffalo News, and Mercury News (to name a few), the concept of not arriving an empty-handed guest is a fairly new custom. It is opposite the teachings of Miss Manners! 😮 😮 😮
While it is okay to bring chocolates or flowers, never wine, as a thank you to a function, bringing food with you can be perceived as disrespectful to your host. Most hosts prefer that you do not bring anything and some have gone as far as putting “don’t bring food” on their invitations. While some hosts don’t mind the idea of anyone other than themselves preparing and bringing food so they don’t have to cook, hosts who enjoy entertaining their guests do mind.
So this holiday season, pay close attention to your invitations and if they don’t say bring food, or they say ‘bring nothing’, do just that! Flowers and chocolates as a thank you is fine, but leave your Shar-Coochie at home (or at least in the trunk) along with your tupperware. That you can bring in if they say take our food home with you! 😉
Have a happy gathering!
