The Sundae That is Me

We never know what life is going to bring us, or how it will mold us into who we eventually become. Barefaced, made up, I am simply me.

I am a 40+ Pansexual, Black woman and I am very proud of this fact.

I could write a post about how I came to discover who I was, my sexuality and how I came out. But honestly, I shouldn’t have to. I was born to love all beings, no matter their gender, no matter how they identify. And in discovering who I was and how I loved others helped me learn a lot about myself and how to accept who I was.

Pride isn’t just about proclaiming your sexuality proudly and wearing it like a badge of honor. It’s owning who you are, how you live and embracing your entire self as a person.

It’s about loving your imperfections as well as the labels that both you and society place upon yourself.  And it is more than something to do during the month of June.

I am simply me, imperfections and all. And I’m so proud of that.

The fact that I’m a 40+ Pansexual, Black woman … just happens to be the sprinkles on the Sundae that is me.

Monster vs Hostage

She never asked for this. She was brutalized and punished for it. And now, for every person who gazes upon her, she sheds silent tears over their fate.  For their undoing is her torture and her heart wrenches with every hiss, every scream, and every cry as each one slowly turns to stone. She is held hostage, penalized for a crime she would never inflict on another only to punish those who gaze upon her. No control, no free will…she was just a captive weapon.

We only see the monster.  We never see the torture of her pain from a punishment she didn’t deserve.

One More Try

It is said the road to hell is paved with good intentions.  But what if you’re trying to get to the lighter parts of the road? What if you’re trying to escape hell? Does that mean be an asshole? I often wonder which is worse…failing miserably at being good when trying to find the light only to end up in the darkness that much more. Or to just be bad and end up in the darkness anyway.

I’m definitely no angel. But I damn sure ain’t the devil either.  Towing that line is a challenge. But let me be a good person, let me do good things and maybe the light will find me in the midst of the darkness and pull me out.
